BUDGETROCK

About BudgetRock

Our Mission

BudgetRock was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help homeowners and DIYers everywhere make smarter decisions about stone and hardscaping projects, through approachable guidance and free budgeting tools that make planning a monthly budget, sizing an emergency fund, saving toward a patio, and paying down debt clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.

We believe that everyone who plans a stone project or dreams of one, from first-time DIYers to seasoned landscapers, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between confusing price quotes and confident, well-informed decisions about stone types and prices, suppliers and masonry, patios, walls, and rock gardens, and the household budget that pays for it all.

Through our free collection of budgeting calculators, we help people make informed decisions about monthly budgets, 50/30/20 splits, savings goals, emergency funds, debt payoff strategies, and net worth. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of planning, saving for, and paying for a project, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our Museum of Stone, with galleries on stones and minerals, stonecraft and masonry, the great stone structures of the world, and stone in the landscape.

Our Story

BudgetRock emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting price quotes and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with planning a hardscaping project, running the numbers on the household budget, and making the most of every dollar spent on stone.

Good hardscaping relies heavily on craft and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident project also benefits from clear answers about how the monthly budget breaks down, how long a savings goal will take, how big the emergency fund should be, which debt to pay off first, and where your net worth actually stands. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched stone and masonry knowledge with modern budgeting tools to help people make confident decisions about every project.

Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we priced our first patios and retaining walls. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when budgeting a project, comparing supplier quotes, or deciding whether to save first or borrow. We tested every tool against real-world numbers, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted budgeting practice.

Today, BudgetRock serves active users worldwide, from first-time DIYers to lifelong stone enthusiasts. Our tools have helped people build monthly budgets, split income the 50/30/20 way, set savings goals, size emergency funds, compare debt payoff strategies, and track net worth, and make more deliberate, confident decisions about their money and their projects.

Our Core Values

Our Expertise

BudgetRock’s tools and guides are developed and maintained by a team with extensive stone, hardscaping, and budgeting experience across multiple areas:

Our team includes experienced masons, landscapers, writers, and reviewers who bring years of combined experience to tool development. We regularly consult industry references and trusted experts to ensure our content reflects current best practices. Our content is general informational and educational content, NOT professional financial, investment, tax, debt, or structural advice; results vary — always verify stone prices with local suppliers and consult a qualified financial professional before making significant money decisions.

Looking Forward

The future of home hardscaping lies in the intelligent combination of craft and proven know-how with modern tools and clear knowledge. At BudgetRock, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of this evolution.

Our development roadmap includes expanded tools for project planning, budget estimating, materials pricing, and cost comparison. We’re also working on multilingual support to serve the global community of stone lovers better, and developing specialized guidance for different project types, stone varieties, and ways of building them more deliberately.

Most importantly, we remain committed to keeping our tools free and accessible. As we grow, we’ll continue to prioritize user needs, ensuring that everyone has access to practical budgeting tools regardless of their budget.
